A buvette is so much more than a snack bar! It is a welcoming hut, often remote but not always, a place to rest, admire the view and eat something simple and delicious. And in this case, it is a surprising little mountain refuge on the ridge of a once mighty but sadly now receding glacier.

La Buvette des Mottets sits at 1638 m in the Chamonix Valley on the ridge of a glacier facing the impressive and celebrated mountain Les Drus. La Buvette is accessible by foot or mountain bike. On a sunny summer day, it is a lovely destination. In addition to the hearty alpine fare, owner Cathy and her team run an eco-hostel where couples and families can sleep under the stars in a transparent bubble. They have found a creative solution to washing linen, and the sun takes care of the drying. I love the girlie bicycle and matching washer!
